I have always had a great interest in quality and craftsmanship. Whether it’s a documentary on the intricacies of the Rolex watch, or eating a perfect steak from Manny’s in Minneapolis, there is something so intriguing about quality, and the work that goes into a quality final product. Although I feel my neuroses (in a way) help with the quality of my work, perfection at the same time can also drive me up the wall! Folks who can find compromise and balance somewhere in-between the two extremes are envied by many!
I found myself in awe a few weeks back while photographing Rob + Claire’s wedding. The prep work and attention-to-detail was impressive. Back over a year ago when I first met Rob + Claire in St Paul, Claire had a vision in mind: Vintage-style wedding from the 30’s era in Wisconsin. At the time, I wasn’t sure what to think – I’ve been involved with weddings in the past where wedding “themes” didn’t go exactly as planned. However, little did I know this particular wedding would be an exception to the rule.
First off, to successfully pull off a vintage-themed wedding, it’s imperative the venue matches the theme. With Claire’s family farm right down the road, the Villa Bellezza was a perfect venue for a vintage-style wedding. To be honest, the Villa Bellezza is almost perfect for any type of wedding, but it really shined on 06/17! A perfect combination of classical architecture with modern amenities.
Secondly, a vintage-style wedding needs to have a church in efforts to really complete the vintageness. Rob + Claire’s shared their first kiss in a traditional, rural Wisconsin church – a perfect setting for Claire’s vision.
Thirdly, props. How can one throw a wedding based on an era that’s over 75+ years old? You get a vintage car and drive it! You get photos with the aforementioned car. You drive the car to the middle of country! You drive the car to your family’s farm right down the road! After that, you take photos!
Everything about this wedding was fantastic! All of it. Every single part of it. Rob + Claire pulled off the best themed-wedding I’ve been a part of! In addition, It was my 4th wedding at the Villa Bellezza and I can’t say enough about this venue! Hope to be back soon.
Thank you to Rob + Claire for choosing Jim Woolsey Photography! A special shout out to my second shooter: Alex Mayeur! He was awesome!
